Player Spotlight- Julen Uriguen

julen-uriguen11Julen has been one of the hottest players on the ITF circuit over the past 2 months. Julen started his hot streak at the G1 Yucataw World Cup in Mexico getting to the quarter finals in both singles and doubles.

Julen then traveled to Florida for the prestigious G1 Eddie Herr Junior Championship. It was a breakthrough tournament for Julen. On his way to the finals he had wins over US Open finalist Devon Britton, Americas highest ranked Junior Chase Buchanon & Denis Kudla.

Julen then headed to Miami for the GA Orange Bowl, Although Julien was to lose a light match to Jarmere Jenkins in the 2nd round, he did beat world #6 Guillaume Rufin in a great  1st round match.  Julen completed a great two months by capturing his first ITF title by winning the International Casablanca Junior Cup. Julen played well all week & topped off the week by winning a one-sided final over Augustin Velotti of Argentina, 6-2, 6-1. Over the 2 month period Julen improved his ITF ranking from 137 to his current rank, 10, in the junior rankings.

Julen is currently on his way to Australia to compete in the GA Australian Junior Open. It is Julen’s first trip to Australia and it will also be his first time competing in the Main Draw at one of the Junior Grand Slams.
